She trained as a visual artist, so she makes the images too

Yasmina Derradj studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and the credits on her record read "Artwork by Yasmina Derradj". The persona came before the songs.

Zoumer is Yasmina Derradj, Danish-Algerian, in Copenhagen. She trained as a visual artist at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and she still makes her own imagery: the credits on e.a.l. (euro arab lovergirl) read "Cover photo by Benjamin Krog / Artwork by Yasmina Derradj". She edited the "euro trash girl" video herself.

On the two practices being one practice:

I would paint and draw while I was listening to music, or I would write lyrics, and it was all very music-oriented.

The persona came first

The "euro trash girl" is a character I've heard about for such a long time, but then I was thinking, "Who is she?" I wanted to give her a scene.

The record is built around that named figure, with a recurring cat motif and deliberately cinematic sound design: a radio tuning in as an intro, cicadas as an outro. She cites Fatima Al Qadiri's score for Atlantics as the reference.

"I wanted to give her a scene" is a sentence about staging rather than songwriting, and it is the reason this record holds together as an object.
