bed wrote a manifesto before they wrote a look

The Tokyo four-piece send journalists a written document called the Unified Vision. The blacked-out shades, the Matrix-green flyers and the strobe-blind live set all descend from it, which is the correct order to do this in and almost nobody does.

Most bands assemble a look and reverse-engineer a meaning for it later. bed did it the other way round.

When Crack Magazine profiled them in April 2026, the band sent over a written copy of their Unified Vision: a doctrine set around a future humanity called ONI and a judgement day in 2052. Everything visible follows from that text. Crack describes the result as "the band's uniform of black-out shades, chokers and cagoules, their bizarre proclamations, and a litany of event flyers drenched in the same The Matrix green as their stage performances", with live sets "masked with smokescreens and an unrelenting strobe".

Bassist Sinji puts the motive bluntly:

I'd given up on living in the Japanese music industry. Everything is fake, like idol culture and J-Pop, and we don't like it.

And on how far the doctrine reaches, in his words, it "runs beneath everything from the music, visuals and artwork, to the way we exist on stage".

The video

Crack calls the 風 (Kaze) visualiser "a strobe-y, monochrome sensory schism that feels like the slimy midpoint between an Aphex Twin video and the cult Japanese cyberpunk film Tetsuo: Iron Man". That is the writer's description rather than the band's, and it is a good one.

One gap we could not close: we do not know Domu's full name, or whether he also makes the flyers.
